Powerful Storm to Usher In Damaging Wind Gusts Across Southern California

Through the past week, much of Southern California has experienced an offshore breeze, promoting above-average temperatures. Heading into the first full week of February, that will change as this storm system tracks through. A major storm system that is expected to bring feet of snow to the Intermountain West will usher in potentially damaging wind gusts to Southern California. Powerful north-to-northwest wind gusts will pick up in earnest late Sunday across Southern California and Nevada, leading to localized power outages and travel issues.

‘Decent Storm’ With 40 mph Winds To Drench Bay Area, Deposit Snow In Sierra

A storm system from the Gulf of Alaska is poised to make Wednesday night in the Bay Area wet and windy.

The system is expected to deliver winds with gusts of up to 40 miles per hour and rain across the region, starting in the North Bay around sunset before moving south. Up to 2 feet of snow could fall in parts of Northern California and the Sierra, according to the National Weather Service, while local precipitation is expected to continue through Thursday, when showers give way to a cloudy Friday.

San Diego Got More Rain Than Seattle in November

Normally sunny San Diego got more rain than Seattle last month, a reverse of what residents of both West Coast cities have to come to expect.

The National Weather Service recorded just under 3 inches of rain with their monitoring station at Lindbergh Field this November, making it the wettest November on record for San Diego.

‘Round After Round’ of Rain Will Drench San Diego County Into Wednesday Night

San Diego County will experience a second day of heavy rain Wednesday from a cold storm out of the north that tapped into tropical moisture from the south as it surged into Southern California, according to the National Weather Service.

The entire region will get soaked, and all areas are under a flash flood watch. But the rain will be heaviest in northern and central San Diego County, especially along Interstate 15, from roughly Escondido north to the county line, forecasters say.
