California’s new state budget includes nearly $25 million for a variety of projects and programs across the city of San Diego, including upgrades in Balboa Park, a new Lake Hodges dam, a gun violence task force and a Mission Valley nature center.
The money also helps with housing projects, human trafficking prevention, libraries, lifeguard operations and lighting for sports fields.
In the new budget proposal he recently announced, Gov. Gavin Newsom proposed $202 million to go toward flood protection. The investments will be divided between urban flood risk reduction, delta levees and Central Valley flood protection, according to the plan.

The ongoing crisis at the Salton Sea has created environmental and human health concerns that have been discussed for decades. “Already we have the largest rate of pediatric asthma hospitalization in the entire state,” said Congressman Dr. Raul Ruiz, 36th district.
Despite pandemic related fiscal challenges, work on the Salton sea still remains a priority. Especially for Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia, from the 56th district, who helped get funds of over 47-million dollars for new river and Salton sea mitigation projects.
