Traffic and the amount of harmful chemicals in the air have dropped amid coronavirus closures, data shows. Telework isn’t currently part of the city’s Climate Action Plan – but it could become part of updated versions.
The city of Encinitas has launched a revamped “climate dashboard” website measuring the city’s efforts to implement its Climate Action Plan.
The online platform is designed with community members in mind and is a place where residents can explore the city’s CAP goals and find answers to their questions about the city’s current progress on climate action.
The climate dashboard features key components of the Climate Action Plan such as building efficiency, clean and efficient transportation, off-road equipment (i.e. leaf blowers), renewable energy, carbon sequestration, water efficiency and zero waste.
On a day to day basis, we stay busy repairing water main breaks, helping our customers find leaks and providing safe drinking water, but we also devote a lot of time to planning for the future. It is important that we look ahead so we can successfully manage our water resources and implement necessary infrastructure projects in order to meet our customers’ future water needs and maintain a resilient water delivery system in the face of aging infrastructure. Currently, the district is directing a lot of our efforts to the formation of a Groundwater Sustainability Agency (GSA) and developing a Climate Action Plan.
San Marcos is updating its climate action plan, and seeking public input on efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The city will host a series of three public meetings in May to seek feedback from residents and businesses on how to control climate pollution. San Marcos adopted a climate action plan in 2013, as part of its general plan, and to comply with California’s Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006. The plan provided a benchmark for the city’s climate emissions and spelled out strategies for reducing those.
With a decision pending on whether the city of San Diego should adopt a government-run power program, San Diego Gas & Electric has notified city officials it is withdrawing from putting together a counterproposal to what is called Community Choice Aggregation. For the past two years, SDG&E has worked with city officials to create a program that would contract for increasing amounts of renewable energy to reach the city’s Climate Action Plan goal of 100 percent renewable sources by 2035.
The name may sound clunky, but Community Choice Aggregation, or CCA, is one of the hottest energy topics in California and may upend the long-time relationship between utilities and customers. But while the growth of CCAs has led to heated debates across the state within the energy and political spheres, many local utility customers are either unclear or unaware of the subject — even as the City of San Diego slowly deliberates whether to hop on the CCA bandwagon to help it meet its Climate Action Plan that calls for 100 percent of the city’s electricity coming from renewable sources by 2035.
