Rain Barrel Distribution Event Feb. 16: Barrels As Low As $25

Rincon del Diablo Municipal Water District (Rincon Water) invites you to a special one-day rain barrel distribution event on Saturday, February 16, from 9  a.m. to noon at 1920 North Iris Lane, Escondido. This event is co-hosted by Rincon Water, the Solana Center, the County of San Diego, the Garden, and the San Diego County Water Authority.

County Offers Discounted Rain Barrels

The Solana Center for Environmental Innovation and the County of San Diego are offering discounted rain barrels to encourage harvesting of rainwater. By using a rain barrel, county residents can reduce pollution from runoff, conserve water and save money on their water bills. The cost is $90 per 50-gallon rain barrel, but residents of incorporated cities can qualify for a $35 rebate per rain barrel on up to two rain barrels per household, bringing the cost to $55 each. Residents of unincorporated areas of the county can get an additional $30 discount, (limited to two discounts per household) for the first 200 rain barrels sold.

San Diego Offers Landscape, Rain Barrel Rebates for Water Customers

The city of San Diego offers money-saving ways for water customers to conserve water. The city’s Public Utilities Department provides rebates through grant funding by the Department of Water Resources for removing lawns and installing rain barrels. Homeowners can apply now for financial rebates to convert their lawns into a drought resistant landscape. The city is offering a $1.25 per square foot rebate for all lawns that are converted. Converted areas must be designed to capture rainfall for reuse. Applications are now being taken for Rainwater Harvesting Rebates. Rain barrels and downspouts catch rainwater from hard surfaces such as rooftops.
